The farm project started with the acquisition of agricultural lands situated at l’Ésperance village, near Quartier Militaire. This area was selected because of the abundance of rain, hence obviating the need for irrigation. Six adjoining plots of land totalling seven arpents were eventually pieced together to constitute the farm area and this was enclosed with chain link fencing.
Further developments to date include:
Basic infrastructure for tool sheds and nursery.
Acquisition of a tractor equipped with bucket and backhoe.
Major earthworks and landscaping according to permaculture design principles, and creation of pathways and of ponds of various sizes.
Creation of swales on contour to optimize water flow and capture.
Water harvesting facility with two 5,000L tanks
Planting of about 50 indigenous trees and 200 fruit trees, leguminous trees and plants (mainly for nitrogen fixing and attracting bees) and a rich diversity of other plants.
The project also includes a nursery and propagation centre, as well as distribution facilities, at the head office in Mare Gravier, Beau Bassin
